What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is when a business gains investment through a crowd - a group of people - via an online platform. Fundraising in this manner allows a private limited company to get the investment they need by inviting people to join their shareholder community, buying shares from as little as £10. This crowd will be made up of both existing stakeholders in the business and people totally new to it.
What is Crowdcube?
In order to raise investment from a crowd you need to work with an online platform to manage your raise. We have chosen Crowdcube, as they are currently the world’s largest crowdfunding platform, and have a great track record within the food and drink sector, with successful raises including Brewdog and Camden Town Brewery, to name just a couple. Using their platform will allow us to invite absolutely anyone who backs our business to come on board and share in our exciting journey.
Crowdcube help centre is a good place to start if you want more detailed information on how crowdfunding works on their platform.
How does investing work?
By investing through Crowdcube you will become a shareholder in our company. The number of shares you buy and the number of shares in existence will dictate your % ownership in our business. Your share documentation will be sent to you by Crowdcube once your payment has been collected.

Why are BDCo crowdfunding?
We want to bring in new shareholders so we can do two big things:
- Invest in Whiskey – we have a unique and innovative barrelling programme underway at the distillery and we need to keep laying down barrels to meet the demand we are already starting to create.
- Invest in our Taproom – we have proven the enormous potential at our bar, even in the most challenging of times. We have very little local competition and if we can just make some necessary improvements then the opportunity in front of us is huge.
Why are BDCo raising funds now?
- Our first batch of whiskey will be ready in October 2021 – if we don’t invest in laying more barrels down now we won’t have a pipeline of stock coming through. Whiskey is also growing rapidly as an alternative investment..
- The on-trade is set to reopen with a bang in summer 2021. We want to be able to serve more people and start to offer tours and masterclasses. We strongly believe that our place should be the best place to enjoy our products.
What do I get if I invest?
You become a shareholder in our business, owning shares that function in the same way as those held by existing shareholders, including founder Jake Black. You also become part of the exclusive 77 Club, which comes with some exciting rewards which are outlined in more detail in our investment prospectus.
How could I get a return on my investment by becoming a Bristol Distilling Company shareholder?
3 years post-raise we intend to begin distributing 50% of net profits via a dividend. All shares have equal dividend rights. In future the company may decide to offer to buy your shares back for a higher value than you paid for them or another much bigger company may want to buy all the shares in our company for a much higher price than you paid for them.
